Scuba diving twinsets provide increased breathing-gas capacity and, when correctly configured, additional equipment redundancy. They are a popular choice for experienced recreational and technical divers who require a twin-cylinder configuration for their planned diving.

Why Choose a Twinset?
A twinset combines two diving cylinders into a single equipment configuration, allowing divers to carry a greater volume of breathing gas than they would with a typical single cylinder.
This can be particularly useful for dives requiring additional gas reserves, longer bottom times or more demanding diving environments.
However, one of the most important advantages of a properly configured twinset is redundancy. When used with appropriate regulators, an isolation manifold can allow trained divers to manage certain equipment failures while retaining access to some of their breathing gas.
Understanding Twinset Manifolds
Most conventional manifolded twinsets connect the two cylinders using a manifold incorporating an isolation valve.
Under normal operating conditions, the manifold allows breathing gas to be accessed through either regulator connection.
If a suitable equipment problem occurs, a diver trained in twinset procedures may be able to isolate part of the system and preserve the remaining available gas.
This requires appropriate training, equipment configuration and regular practice. A twinset should never be considered a substitute for sound dive planning or gas management.
10L or 12L Twinsets?
Choosing the right twinset involves balancing gas capacity, overall weight, cylinder dimensions and the type of diving you intend to undertake.
Twin 10L cylinders provide a relatively compact configuration that may appeal to divers looking for additional gas capacity without the size of larger twinsets.
Twin 12L cylinders offer greater gas capacity and are a popular configuration for technical diving.
Cylinder length, weight and buoyancy characteristics can vary between manufacturers, so it's important to consider how the twinset will work with your harness, wing and overall equipment setup.
232 Bar & 300 Bar Twinsets
Twinsets are available in different working-pressure configurations.
232 bar twinsets are widely used and provide a practical balance between gas capacity and equipment weight.
300 bar twinsets can provide additional gas capacity at their rated pressure, but are often heavier and require suitable valves, regulators and filling facilities.
The most appropriate choice depends on your diving requirements and the availability of compatible filling facilities.
Filling, Inspection & Testing
At Sussex Diving in Selsey, we provide breathing-air and Nitrox filling services, along with cylinder inspection, testing and oxygen cleaning.
Our filling facilities can accommodate suitable diving cylinders up to 300 bar, subject to their individual working-pressure ratings and inspection status.
We can also advise on twinset valves, manifolds, cylinder bands and suitable equipment configurations.
