The wreck of this 5,306-ton passenger and cargo ship, torpedoed in July 1918, sits in around 22m of water and is well broken up and dispersed.
Remains include brass detonating caps, marmalade jars, wine bottles, aircraft bombs, and lorry parts. Marine life typical to Sussex wrecks, such as edible crabs, lobsters, bibs, and conger eels, can be found abundantly around the SS Shirala.
