This is a working beach and the Lifeboat's launching area.  When in the water, an SMB must be deployed between buddies at all times, as there have been occasions when the lifeboat launch has been delayed because of inconsiderate divers.

The main (and best part of this) dive site is to the East of the new Lifeboat Station by approximately 1 breakwater. The site itself is under the far row of fishing boats, although there are things to see and mini reefs to the west of the lifeboat as well.

The maximum depth for the dive is around 6-8m.

Normally dived at Slack water which is around 4 hours before high water and 3 hours after.

The best dive conditions for visibility are normally on the 3 hours after tide and neap tides offer the better and longer slack.

As this site is exposed, when the wind is blowing onshore, the waves can make it dangerous to get in and out of the sea. For this reason, it is best dived with westerly to northerly winds. Avoid diving with an easterly or south-easterly wind.

Sadly, the old Lifeboat Station has now been removed as well as all the struts, however there are a few items on the seabed where it used to be.

Top Tip watch the boats they will start to turn when the tide goes slack…..

The stony beach can make it a challenge after the dive.

The Lifeboat Inn is a very popular re-hydration spot at the pub and provides an excellent place to debrief after the dive and to complete your logbooks before heading home.
