The United States Navy LCT548 has an interesting history. In November 1944, the vessel sustained severe damage while unloading stores in Normandy. It was on its way back to Portsmouth for repairs when the hastily welded bow ramp gave way near the Isle of Wight. The sudden drop caused water to rush in, resulting in the ship capsizing. To prevent any potential hazards, the decision was made to open fire and sink the vessel into the Solent. Today, the LCT548 remains upside down in 10 meters of water after drifting for some time.
